Do you like to listen?

During a recent visit to the Bibby Distribution depot in Lutterworth, I met a lorry driver who told me that in his ten years driving for Bibby, he’s listened to well over 4000 audio books! It seems that lots of you like listening to books just as much as you like reading them! So with that in mind, I’d thought I’d bring your attention to BBC Radio 4’s first ever UK radio dramatisation of Alice Walker’s acclaimed novel The Colour Purple. The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, published in 1982, is a compelling and uncompromising story set in America’s Deep South between the two world wars. It tells the tale of Celie, a young girl born into segregation and poverty. The abuse she suffers from her family changes the course of her life forever.

It’s a gripping story – well worth a listen (here, on BBC iplayer), or even a read…
