Chinese whispers

Bob Holcroft is a regular attendee of the Get Into Reading group in Liverpool Head Office. He is currently on a business trip in China. One of his colleagues there is friends with a Chinese poet, Yu Bing, who has had a book of her poems published. Yu Bing has kindly allowed one of her poems (in translation) to be reproduced on this blog. Enjoy…

Red Clouds and Bright Lights in the Sunset

Last night’s breeze, flying clouds and the gentle sound of the sea

Are all in my dream – on the way to heaven

And also in the setting sun, red clouds and bright lights

Sitting here, thoughts are so deep

The years have taken away my hope of youth

On that lazy April afternoon, on the bench by the seaside

I look out to the golden sea

Which is in your heavenly home.

Yu Bing
